This article will provide a step by step process of how to enter in an irrigation system on any given field.
Once you are logged in to your Morning Farm Report® account, you need to click* the red product circle across the top of your screen called Field Story (Figure 1).
*If you are viewing Morning Farm Report on a mobile device, you will tap instead of click.
Step 1. Select the field you would like to add the irrigation system to by clicking on the field name in the Farm Tree on the left side of your screen. You will then need to scroll down to view the Field Story timeline.
Step 2. Select the crop year that you would like to add the irrigation system to by clicking on the “year - crop”. In Figure 2 above, clicking on “2017 - Soybeans” will open the crop year so that you can see all the field events for the crop year (Figure 3).
Step 3. Click on the red pencil next to the Field Characteristics field event (Figure 3). The field event will open so that you can see all the details within the Field Characteristics event (Figure 4).
Step 4. Click Irrigation: Irrigation System (highlighted in Figure 5).
Step 5. Once you select “Irrigation: Irrigation System” you will be asked to fill out all details within the Field Characteristics. Select the “Drainage Status” of the field (Figure 6).
Step 6. Select all “Characteristics” that apply to the field (Figure 7). You are able to select one or more characteristics or none at all.
Step 7. Select the “Tillage Practice” for the field (Figure 8).
Step 8. Click “Irrigation System” (highlighted in Figure 9).
Step 9. Select the “Irrigation Hardware Type” (Figure 10).
Step 10. Confirm the Irrigated Area by clicking “Next” or type in the correct irrigated area (Figure 11).
Step 11. Confirm the Irrigation Capacity by clicking “Next” or type in the correct irrigation capacity (Figure 12).
Step 12. Select the Water Source for the irrigation system (Figure 13).
Step 13. Click “Yes” if the irrigation system has a tailwater recovery system. Click “No” if not (Figure 14).
Step 14. Enter in the Pump Pressure of the irrigation system in Pounds Per Square Inch. Click “Next” (Figure 15).
Step 15. Enter in the Pump Depth in feet. Click “Next” (Figure 16).
Step 16. Choose your Irrigation Schedule (Figure 17). Select “Automatic” for an Automatic Irrigation Schedule* based on the soil moisture percentage. Select “Manual” for a Manual Irrigation Schedule. If you select a Manual Irrigation Schedule, please read the important information at the bottom of this article.
*If you select an Automatic Irrigation Schedule, you will be asked what the minimum soil moisture percentage should be for the irrigation system to apply water. Select the desired percentage (Figure 18).
Step 17. Click “On” for both Automatic and Manual Irrigation Schedules (Figure 19).
Step 18. Confirm the Production Area of the field by clicking “Next” or change the Production Area by editing the percentage of the acres shown (Figure 20). In the example below, the total acres of the field is 143.28 acres. If you only plant 85% of that 143.28 acres, then enter 85 and the acreage will be updated to 121.78 acres. Click “Next.”
Step 19. You have the option to enter a Note (Figure 21). Then, click “Done.”
Step 20. Click “Save.”
Manual Irrigation Schedule Explained
If you selected a Manual Irrigation Schedule, you still have to enter in the individual irrigation events in Field Story as they happen in real time. If you do not enter in individual irrigation events and you have selected a Manual Irrigation Schedule, your crop will most likely not receive the water it needs in our system.
