The Sustainable Sourcing product within the Morning Farm Report® gives you a connection to powerful sustainability metrics and 3rd party calculators that were developed with input from the American Farm Bureau Federation, the National Corn Growers Association, American Soybean Association, U.S. Grains council, National Association of Wheat Growers, Nation Barley Growers Association, American Peanut Council, Cotton Inc, USA Rice Federation, National Potato Council, and many other grower organizations. Morning Farm Report® is the easiest platform to understand and estimate Sustainability on your farm by using Field Story™. This product allows you to see field by field metrics on energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, land use, soil loss, soil carbon, water use, water quality, and nitrogen use, then compares your results to state benchmarks. By inputting the information required to calculate Sustainable Sourcing for your fields, you are able to receive your metrics in less than 24 hours, as well as gain additional value from the suite of products within Morning Farm Report®.

How does the Sustainable Sourcing product work?
Morning Farm Report® allows you to enter information about your farm business all in one location in a product within Morning Farm Report® called Field Story™. Field Story™ becomes your filing cabinet for all record keeping of field operations year to year. Field Story™ is directly linked to our Sustainable Sourcing product because certain pieces of information that you have entered in Field Story™ are used to calculate sustainability metrics for each field.
Figure 1 (below) shows the Sustainable Sourcing product for a single soybean field. Figure 2 shows the corresponding Field Story™ for the same soybean field. As you will see from the two images, the field events match from each product.
A direct link between the two products exists so that you can use the Sustainable Sourcing product page to view what field operations have yet to be completed in Field Story™, which are required to calculate the field's sustainability metrics. Figure 1 above shows all of the 2017 Field Story™ events with yellow triangles and red exclamation points. This suggests that you have yet to update or create the required events in Field Story™ to calculate sustainability metrics. Once you complete the required field events for sustainability metrics, your Sustainable Sourcing page will contain green check marks within each field event (Figure 3). This informs you that you have completed the sustainable sourcing requirements for a specific field.
Once you have completed the required events and received green check marks for a field, the “Calculate” button above the “Required Events” heading will become live. At that point, you can click “Calculate” for the field, which will initiate the calculation of your sustainability metrics and signify completion of that field.
Sustainability Metrics Explained
Once you have hit “Calculate” for any one of your fields to receive your sustainability metrics, they are made available to you in less than 24 hours in the format pictured below (Figure 4). This provides you a quick snapshot of each sustainability metric for a specific field, compared to the state benchmarks. You then have the ability to select each specific metric by clicking on each of the icons below the Sustainable Sourcing title for a deeper explanation (Figure 5).
